• Comfort with ambiguity — no spec to code against

Fastest path: internal PM transfer at your current company. If that's blocked, target companies that specifically hire engineers into APM programs (Google, Meta, LinkedIn).

Designers understand users deeply — that's a superpower. What you need to build:

• Data literacy — SQL basics, metric definitions, A/B tests
• Prioritization frameworks — cutting your favorite ideas
• Business context — revenue, retention, market dynamics
• Engineering comfort — enough to have credibility with engineers

Consultants have strategy, structure, and stakeholder management down. What you need to build:

• Craft — you've advised, not built. Ship something
• Speed — consulting cycles are slow; product is weekly/daily
• Technical fluency — enough to earn respect from engineers
• Ownership mindset — the outcome is yours, not the client's

Growth marketers already think in funnels and metrics. What you need to build:

• Craft — writing PRDs, working with design and engineering
• Prioritization frameworks — beyond ROI/CAC math
• Technical fluency — enough to unblock

1. Identify PM-adjacent work in your current role and reframe it on your resume
2. Build 3 portfolio pieces that show PM thinking
3. Get an internal transfer if possible (easiest path)
4. Network heavily — 5 conversations/week for 12 weeks
5. Target APM/PM I roles first — you can level up in a year or two
